VictoriaMetrics, an open-source database monitoring system, is working with multi-satellite data platform Open Cosmos to build scalable edge computing solutions for satellites.

The Ukranian-based start-up, founded by ex-engineers from Google, Lyft, and Cloudlfare, has teamed up with Open Cosmos to build a monitoring solution that supports the launch of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites.

The two companies’ combined open-source platform will integrate mission-critical satellite control with data distribution to provide greater functionality, adaptability, and compatibility with a wide range of space tools.

The solution will allow engineers to access telemetries to monitor a given satellite’s health by storing, querying, and providing timely alerts on a range of ground metrics.

Pep Rodeja, ground segment technical lead at Open Cosmos, said: “The health of our customers’ space assets is highly important, and VictoriaMetrics’ monitoring is crucial for ensuring our satellites remain healthy, playing an indispensable role in powering our satellite alert system.

“We needed an easy-to-use solution to seamlessly apply our knowledge about operating servers to the space sector at scale.”

After testing a number of instruments, Open Cosmos opted for VictoriaMetrics, and built its platform into its tech stack.

The company chose VictoriaMetrics for its high performance and compatibility with the Open Cosmos’ myriad of instruments together with its interoperability with the Prometheus API.

The last 12 months have seen unprecedented development for VictoriaMetrics as the use cases involving time collection and monitoring continue to grow.

In April, the company’s exceeded fifty million downloads for its open supply software along with more than a million GitHub downloads.

In April, the corporate introduced its open supply merchandise had exceeded 50M downloads, together with a million GitHub downloads.
