StarHub, one of Singapore’s major telco providers, has partnered with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to provide 5G multi-access edge computing (MEC) to Singaporean enterprises.
The joint offering will help enterprise and government clients move time critical workloads such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, and machine learning closer to the source where customers require ultra-low latencies.
StarHub expects uptake to be popular in latency-sensitive environments, including high-precision manufacturing, autonomous transportation, and in cameras with predictive analytics.
As part of the launch, a 5G MEC public showcase will be located in the lobby of StarHub Green in Singapore, providing example solutions for potential clients to look at until March 2022. Some of the on-site solutions include workplace safety wearables, 3D indoor positioning and wayfinding, augmented reality applications, and drones.
Charlie Chan, chief of StarHub’s Enterprise Business Group, said: “The ability to interpret and act on data in real-time has become a crucial pillar for enterprises to compete strongly in the digital-first world.
“Through our collaboration with HPE, we are introducing a single entry point for enterprises to transform with 5G, no matter the stage of their digital journeys.”
Chan Kong Hoe, managing director for Singapore at HPE, said: “Edge services are a huge opportunity for telcos with the transition from just providing connectivity to offering innovative edge cloud services.
“Service providers that capture this opportunity will drive greater revenues and will be able to compete successfully against global cloud providers who are targeting this space. Partnership is in HPE’s DNA and we’re excited to build an ecosystem of innovative applications that run seamlessly on our advanced, scalable and secure MEC solution.”
